My son has started climbing onto the sofa. It takes all of his effort to scale this formerly impossible edifice that everyone else could sit on with ease. He had to ask to get up. Now he is in control. After one fall from which there seems to be no negative repercussions and many jangled nerves on his parents’ part, he seems to be getting a handle on how to sit on the sofa without causing bodily harm. We have yet to see how this all plays out, but it is one more step in his independence, something he obviously relishes.
