Erratic Pendulum

4:30. 7:00. Those are the extremes of the swing between wake up times for my son. There is no warning when it will be a crushingly early or blissfully late moment when the bedroom door opens to the sound of, “I wake up!” The unpredictability of the day-to-day coupled with the regular swings back and forth make this phase of development particularly excruciating. My body responds by waking up every day around 4:00 or so and then either dozing in a tense haze or responding to the needs of a very wakeful child. Please, oh please, let this morning be a late one.
