Saturday afternoon, I took the kids to see Honk! the Somerville festival of activist street bands. It is a truly awesome event with bands from all over dressed in wild costumes and spectators likewise dressed for fun. The music and dancing is everywhere around Davis Square. We even saw some friends as we were passing through. Last year and this year, there was a display of work by the Beehive Design Collective. I am stunned by their work. My son was a little overwhelmed by the last band we saw, but we were in the front row next to a guy wearing a silver scull mask through which he put his trumpet. I am so glad we live just steps from where this is held each year. This is the kind of stuff I want my kids comfortable with.
