First ER Trip with Kids

An illustration from my son’s hospital gown.

Over the last two days, my son has complained of stomach pain in the same area and today started running a low grade fever. After consulting his doctor, an ER visit was recommended to ensure he didn’t have appendicitis. Of course, today was also the second snow storm of the season. Surprisingly in Boston, they haven’t really cleared either storm, and the trip to the hospital took two hours in very unpleasant rush hour blizzard conditions. Luckily, our nanny was able to stay with our daughter so she didn’t have to endure this trip, and we didn’t have to manage her as well as my son. Adding the drive and the usual hospital admittance dance, it made for a long evening. All of the staff and medical personnel were outstanding and warm which made the whole ordeal much more bearable. Also, the diagnosis of just a virus and no looming appendectomy was also welcome news. The drive back, thought snowy and difficult, was much happier.
