As far as first go, this one is pretty big. Yes, I know there will be bigger ones down the road, but in the perspective of a 6 year-old, the first sleepover is something thought about for a long time, worried about for a long time, and begged for even longer. Once the plan hits the ground, it is unbridled excitement and nervousness. Last night, we created as good an environment for success, let the reality of it happen, and adjusted on the fly.
Things we learned:
- When there is a sleepover, all the kids don’t sleep well in the same room. This seems obvious, but our two sleep way better when they are in the same room.
- Everyone is grumpy the next day from lack of sleep. Plans in place for that are pretty crucial because making plans on the fly with everyone grumpy is not a good idea.
- It was just fine. We also got a bit wound up, but in the end, it was a good time. My daughter spent a lot of time with her good friend and passed another threshold that she was eager to leave behind.
Thank goodness we didn’t have much scheduled for today!
